Shopping In Dublin

Shopping In Dublin

Dublin City Centre has two main shopping areas which are centred around Henry Street on the north side of the city and Grafton Street on the south.

Henry Street is located just off O’Connell Street and is home to the largest shopping quarter in Ireland. This area caters for the serious high-street shopper and offers some of the most famous brands around. Ireland’s largest department store, Arnotts, is located right in the heart of Henry Street with the Ilac Shopping Centre sitting directly opposite. Running alongside the Ilac Shopping Centre, on Moore Street, is one of oldest fruit, vegetable, and fish markets in Dublin.

Henry Street leads off into Mary Street where you can find Penneys department store- well known for its unbeatable prices, it is definitely worth a visit. Across the street, the Jervis Shopping Centre has an excellent selection of high street shops and leads into Marks and Spencer’s department store. Stop by Marks and Spencer’s before heading along Liffey Street to the Ha’penny Bridge which stretches over the River Liffey and brings you to the south side of the city. Head on through Merchant’s Arch and find yourself in Dublin’s cultural quarter- Temple Bar.

Temple BarTemple bar is a charming cobble-stoned pedestrian area filled with little cafes and unusual shops and is well worth a few hours of your time to explore all the winding side streets and unusual clothing shops. For a truly bohemian experience, try Café Irie on Fownes Street for tea and a chat before heading off up Dame Street and onto Grafton Street.

Shopping aside, Grafton Street is an experience in itself. Soak up the atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon as Grafton Street fills up with talented musicians and street artists. This area is home to the more upmarket boutiques and exclusive designer stores, the largest of which is Brown Thomas.

Off the side streets of Grafton Street, there are many little boutiques and unique shopping areas. On Clarendon Street, the Powerscourt Shopping Centre itself is a converted 18th century mansion and houses a selection of cafés and designer shops. The Powerscourt Shopping Centre stretches over to William Street South where you can slip across to The South City Market (more commonly known as the George’s Street Arcade) to find an eclectic mix of goods ranging from second-hand books to vintage records, Asian trinkets and clothing to speciality tealeaves and gourmet foods.

Stephens Green Shopping CentreStephen’s Green Shopping Centre is located at the top is Grafton Street and offers a selection of high street shops along with some unique Asian shops and art dealers on the top floor. Also at the top of Grafton Street is Butler’s Irish Chocolate where you can treat yourself to a delicious hot chocolate before heading across the street to St. Stephen’s Green Park. This truly beautiful piece of nature, set right in the heart of Dublin City, is not to be missed. A stroll in the park, hot chocolate in hand, is the perfect way to polish off your shopping experience in Dublin City Centre.
